Cancer Treatments The Pull for Conventional Only is So Strong

Another beautiful mom, inside and out, succumbed to the strong pull of two powerful entities. She died of cancer.

The two strong pulls are:

1.  Big Pharma
2. The FDA

Let me back track a couple of years. We heard that this beautiful mom was all of the sudden diagnosed with mid stage cancer.  Knowing that most women and couples are not aware of holistic/alternative healing protocols I gave her some information so she at least knew that they exist and that there are places that do Integrative medicine or purely alternative (actually what's been around for centuries and is mostly successful).  I felt she had a right to suppressed information to make an informed decision. Yet any decision she would make would be hers.  She handed the info back the next time I saw her some months down the road.  She was not interested not even to just talk about it.

She passed away last week another beautiful woman, wife and mother, and an awesome school guidance counselor,  gone.

Now what is the pull I am speaking about? Big Pharma pushing chemo, a drug that destroys the immune system, the very system you need to fight off the cancer.  It is toxic to every cell in your body, not just the cancer cells.  It's like the old blood letting; drain all the blood to rid the disease, which was deadly.  Blood is the life "blood" of the body.  We progressed much in the mainstream.

Conventional medical, the cut, surgery to remove the cancer.  Yes it has been effective but not long term without chemo and radiation. The lymphs, the needed combatant of toxins and disease are removed. Surgical incisions destroy the body's second immune system within your skin to battle all that bombards it daily.  After surgery large amounts of antibiotics, which are becoming  resistant to bacteria, are necessary in conventional medicine and are not what the body prefers at all.

The burn, radiation, totally destroys and weakens the area it is focused on. We are bombarded by radiation daily with microwave technology, radiation, for satellites, cell phones, ovens, medical radiation and much more. Your body does not like this.  Sadly, I witnessed a young woman, 16 at best, walk perfectly fine into her first radiation treatment appointment at Yale.  She could barely walk out, hunched over after treatment and was in so much pain.  I wanted to hug her and help her.

You see the pull to what is known and what is conveniently all that most people are allowed to hear about, is killing more people every day, while prevention and cures exist that when they are used, when the doctor says put your affairs in order I can't help you any more speech is given, have been quite successful for up to 20 years or more.  They know full well they are letting the kill system progress by doing this. Most doctors even oncologists have stated they would never go through these conventional methods.  They seek the methods that work, that have had research and studies in the States and Europe and they are suppressed in the States to keep the money rolling into Big Phama, and the medical system and back out to university research for cures and to doctors.  For over 40 years so much money, billions, has been raised to cure cancer. So where is the cure? It is archived and suppressed, called quackery by doctors who are indoctrinated with the conventional way of treatment by the two strong pull machines.  This is slowly changing as many prominent MD's have a new model in Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine. Ladies, you have a choice to at least seek out the information to make the best decision for you. Not Big Pharma's nor the Cancer societies money machine, that in over 40 years has not come up with a cure, while many others have.  Contact me if you do research and have questions.

Please view my Top 10 Report on the right side bar. Unfortunately I found no mechanism within blogger for you to be able to download it.

The second strong pull I alluded to above is the FDA.  They have no interest in the health of this nation. They spin the truth and disallow you to use/have the treatments that will actually heal you. That's government interfering with your rights as a mother and parent to do what you know is best for your child or yourself, especially when more death occurs, from the conventional protocols. When you are healed by whole food bought at local organic farms, herbs, real super foods, conscious doctors, integrative practices and more that are healthy, they make the money. Otherwise the money goes to the unconscious corporations, especially  Big Phama, and all of the chemical and pesticide companies etc.

The FDA needs to be abolished so that you and everyone else has the information you need to make informed decisions for you health.  Sugar coated language, raids on successful farms whose products heal are now a reality. The FDA makes it difficult for they and you. Their lobbyists get key Big Business leaders to sit on the boards and commissions and the FDA. Large sums of money changes hands to achieve this. The FDA sides with the money, unconscious businesses whose business plan is money over saving lives.   There are no large lists of side effects for these farm products just the good they have done. Yet, listen to Big Pharma ads on TV. A two minute ad push was followed by a 10 minute spiel of warnings portion, that I timed. Yet these are allowed to "help" you. The idea of the FDA is nice, however when you think about it, we ourselves can boycott, do our research or seek help, speak to our local politicians. And they were never meant to do us good. We can overcome what needs to be overcome without a non elected entity calling the shots and therefore screening out what you can not use for your health.  Their decisions are not what is best for you most often. This second strong pull and meekly following this appointed entity, and Big Pharma, the 2 big pulls killing beautiful moms (and dads and kids) unnecessarily, do so through power, money and persuasive speech.

Moms, I want you to live. I want you to be there for your family.  If you want to at least think outside of the conventional medical treatment box, be open to the natural information that does exist, and that if it is at least used in conjunction with the #1 pull to beat your cancer or make it less painful, less exhausting during and after your treatment, you will be much better off on the other side of treatment. On it's own, the results can be amazing.  Do understand everyone is unique. Results are unique.

Personally I have lost very, very special moms, one my soul sister and a grand mother due to cancer.

In my mind you need to see/hear all the information that exists that is helpful and to see what those women who have had cancer have done and how they are thriving and relating their stories to the world, literally.  You may agree. Stage 4 cancer has been holistically healed after the "get your affairs in order speech" was given by their doctor.  We need to get back to thinking and evaluating for ourselves what we need. Watchdogs are one sided.  One of my passions is to share when information is biased and when good studies and clinical trial data  information is suppressed.

The most simple cure is prevention, eating for what your body requires which is whole clean unprocessed foods nutrition, an environment within your body where cancer cannot survive, self care and the deep desire for ultimate health so you will say no to what is not good for your body the majority of the time and yes to what is. Your body was created to function and to heal.  Let it. Disease, acne, arthritis, autism, alzheimers, diabetes, cancer, coronary heart disease are all lifestyle diseases and do heal.

Find the cause of your health issues and heal them. Ladies, take charge of your health and live. You weren't meant to manage disease.

A health coach is trained to guide you through, to prevent or to heal an existing condition, one step at a time.  After you connect with me on facebook, twitter and my website take the next step if you like for your 40 minute health strategy session. Lastly, after I started writing this post I listened to a recorded radio show that had many interviews. One interview was with Dr. Coldwell.  I went straight to his website after his and smiled.  Much of what I've written about here, he has stated a bit better than I as he's been ostracized like many other doctors outside of the medicate, burn and cut treatment modality.  Here is his website if you would like to read about him  http://drleonardcoldwell.com/only-answer-to-cancer/ . There are many out there, like him.

Chocolate Greetings!

Deep, Dark, Chocolate.  According to David Wolfe, engineer, living-food nutrition expert, superfoods expert and longevity expert, cacao, aka chocolate, has the highest amount of antioxidants in any other source on the planet.

Chocolate with pistachios, CAHHC party 2012
Chocolate grows on trees, the Cacao tree.  Minimally processed raw cacao is produced from the cacao seeds often referred to as cacao beans.  Chocolate comes to us from the Mayans who used the nuts for drinks and as currency.  Cacao trees grew wild in the Amazon basin and South American rain forests.  They were discovered by the Spanish Conquistador Don Hernán Cortés who brought cacao beans to Europe.  The love affair with chocolate continues to this day.

Cacao trees today are the #1 cash crop of the rain forests which greatly benefits the numerous indigenous people of the rain forests with employment.  This benefits the rain forests greatly themselves.

Forms of cacao are the seeds/nuts/ beans, pulp, as a powder like cocoa, cacao butter and cacao nibs. Cacao nuts have 15x the antioxidants of wild blue berries and they are the most eaten nut on the planet more popular than almonds. The beans in the cacao nuts are used to produce chocolate oil.  Minimally processed and non-heated cacao is raw chocolate and these oils and their healthy benefits remain intact. Chocolates with percentages of cacao above 70% are the best, health wise, where 55% is acceptable.  If  you can get your hands on raw cacao nuts even better.

The chocolates with the least amount of sugar products are also best as certain degenerative dis-eases feed on sugar.   Plus, the amount of sugar most Americans eat per year is way too high, 150 - 180 pounds per year.  Yikes!  Added fruits, nuts, coconut, or essential oils add sweetness, flavor and texture. Chocolate products are best without dairy as well, as many of you are sensitive to it and don't necessarily know it. Plus, dairy causes mucous build up throughout the body and inflammation, a precursor to dis-ease.  Most chocolate that is found in stores is not healthy at all. Over processed, laden with sugar and milk products, artificial flavors and colors, do your body no good.

Do you have muscles that cramp up often? Low magnesium levels are the culprit many times. Personally, this has been an issue for me. Thank goodness I love healthy raw chocolate products.   Cacao is the highest source of magnesium. Magnesium has kept the painful charlie horse cramps at bay in my legs.  When I slip in eating healthy chocolate my legs cramp up again. Research has shown that magnesium is required for healthy muscles.  Remember, your heart is a muscle, so have your magnesium level checked with a number of vitamins and minerals at least once a year by your doctor, Naturopath or health practitioner.
Some benefits of Dark Chocolate are:
  • Contains the highest amount of antioxidants in the world.  Research has shown that fruit has less antioxidant activity and flavanoids than dark chocolate and dark chocolate products. A chart online specifically lists all the fruits antioxidant levels and chocolate’s level.
  • Contains theobromine which is good for your nervous system
  • Contains phenylethylamine found in the nervous system.  It has a mood boosting effect due to it releasing the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain.
  • Contributes to cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure and increasing blood flow
  • Raw chocolates have the added benefits of retaining the original nutrients and minerals the body requires
  • Chocolate is the #1 anti-aging food in the world. It contains polypehols and resveratrol
  • Chocolate is the #1 food for magnesium in the world, highest source of iron, manganese and chromium of any other major food in the world, and is necessary for blood building , stabilization of blood sugar(chromium) and stress reduction– David Wolfe
  • Chocolate is the #1 raw food
  • Very rich in phosphorus for healthy bones and great for your teeth and zinc and copper.  – David Wolfe
David has been interviewed numerous times about cacao/chocolate. His videos are a Google search away, “David Wolfe Benefits of Chocolate” and on Youtube.  The TED talk February 2012 and a few interviews with Supreme Master Television are packed with information.

There are many decadent raw chocolates and raw snack bars on the market to choose from.  So just maybe this year and moving forward, you will think of chocolate in a new light, I mean dark, dark chocolate that is.
So ladies, to chocolate! Indulge. Valentine’s Day, and every day.

June's Herb of the Month

Cinnamon
Cinnamon Sticks

Did you know that cinnamon is tree bark?  Until recently I didn't know that two kinds of cinnamon existed. Where have I been!  Cinnamon commonly sold in the US is from the Cassia tree.  Our second choice for cinnamon is Ceylon cinnamon hailing from Sri Lanka by way of an evergreen tree of the laurel family.  While it is not as sweet as Cassia cinnamon it does provide a more delicate flavor for your favorite recipes.

Cinnamon is also medicinal and has been used since ancient Egyptian times for a variety of illnesses and dis-eases.  It can help insulin resistance and weight loss.

In one study reported by the Diabetes Care Journal, cinnamon reduced blood sugar levels and increased the natural production of insulin, while it lowered their blood cholesterol also.  Specifically, their blood cholesterol levels were lowered in the range of 10 to 26 percent, affecting overall cholesterol levels and reducing the LDL (known as the bad cholesterol) but not reducing levels of HDL, the good cholesterol. For more information and the data source - Thyroid-info.com.

What are some of your favorite drink, and food recipes that you make using cinnamon? Head on down to the comments section below and please let us know.

Inflammation, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

Is there really something good about inflammation?  Yes, surprisingly there is because we only hear the bad press.  Well, we will cover all of it here in this post.

Pure Water, Hydration  Natural Stress Reduction
Inflammation is your body's first line of defense against infections and injuries, wounds, falls, toxic food, pesticides, pollution and the like.  The emergency response team in you body responds immediately.  A little science here, this team receives distress signals of the bio chemical nature from damaged tissues and cells.  For knee scrapes or puncture wounds the injured area is sealed off, incoming bacteria get their death sentence and certificate and the damaged tissues are destroyed.

What we perhaps see as redness, swelling, feel as heat or pain and perceive to be bad,   are actually signs that the body's emergency response team is in action, your inflammatory response.

Inflammatory response is the start of the healing process.  Like everything else, this response needs to keep a balance between heating up inflammation and cooling it down.  As we know, when there is excessive inflammation, heat, and the ph is too acidic our immune system is compromised and we become ill.  When it is severe and chronic our body is way out of balance.  The body and all of our body's systems immune, circulatory, respiratory to name a few are in distress, break down and serious dis-ease takes hold.

For example, internally, when veins, arteries, our system organs, tissues and joints are taxed or injured they become inflamed because the automatic response system kicks in to start the healing process. At this stage however serious symptoms arise and the response team can become overwhelmed when the conditions are chronic due what the body perceives as an overload of toxins. What toxins?  Excessive sugar, toxic food (wax, petroleum products unpronounceable chemical foods), pesticides, cosmetics, body care products etc., over a long space of time.  The immune system can not handle the situation well.  The body tries to send us messages but we are too busy to listen until the damage is done and comes forth as a debilitating dis-ease and perhaps unrelenting pain depending on the dis-ease.

Tips to avoid or clear up inflammation:

1. Drink plenty of fresh spring water, or filter your own.  Checkout findaspring.com.
2. Eat and drink more dark leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables and other alkaline or
     alkaline forming foods
3. Eat organic for at least the annual dirty dozen fruits and vegetables. Organic tastes better
irregardless of what mainstream reports and biased testing show. It tastes good, you will
eat more fruits and vegetables which tames inflammation and then eliminates it or
keeps it in balance. Organic is less costly in the long run with your time and money, it is
non-GMO, no animal genes in your fruits and vegetables, no built-in pesticides and lastly
the soil is nutrient dense with numerous minerals and life teaming organisms with in the
soil, verses deficient soil, your typical conventional industrialized farm soil.
4. When you cook meat if you do, choose rare, medium rare. Grilling burnt/crispy is deadly.
5. What ever you wouldn't eat don't serve to your body to cleanse your skin, face or body
with, nor use as moisturizers, perfumes, makeup or hair products. Anything not easily
pronounced is a good indication that it is toxic, not health and you don't want it on your
skin where it then transits into your body.
6.  Manage your stress. As the # 1 killer in the us today because it's damage hidden for so
long. It causes inflammation which in turn creates an acidic ph and when chronic, causes
debilitating dis-eases, most often deadly dis-ease, for example Cancer, Diabetes, CHD,
Lung dis-eases, Autoimmune dis-eases Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Alzheimer's,
     Adrenal Failure and more.
7.  Cut back on the whites - sugar, flour, salt, unless you have low blood pressure; the brain
requires salt for development. Use Celtic or Pink Himalayan salt, not iodized salt.
8.  Cut back on caffine, alcohol, prescription meds, antibiotics. Use pro and prebiotics.
While cacao and dark chocolate is good for you for much of the chocolate on the market
has quite a bit of caffine.  For some health conditions caffine needs to be avoided entirely.

Do you suffer from a debilitating dis-ease?  How's your stress life?  Please share with us in the comments below.

May's Herb of the Month

Garlic Odiferous and Delicious

Garlic is definitely a friend to our bodies yet gets a bum rap due to it's reputation for bad breath and body odor.  Roasted garlic is sweeter and the breath isn't as much of an issue. Now let's see why this member of the Lilley family which was treasured during Egyptian times is good for us.

1.  We live in a world of parasites. They make their way into our digestive tract by the food we eat, from pets and unsanitary conditions.  These little guys and gals just hate garlic. Garlic, over here!

2.  Simplified, our  blood delivers nutrients, proteins, electrolytes and hormones throughout the body.  It also feeds the neurons in the brain the oxygen and the nutrients they need to stay healthy, requiring a constant blood flow to the brain.

The body makes its own supply of hydrogen sulfide, which acts as an antioxidant and transmits cellular signals that relax blood vessels and increase the blood flow. Garlic also increases hydrogen sulfide in the body.  You can read the rest of this article here. Again, this ensures  an even free flow of blood throughout the body, except to the lungs where the blood takes and delivers oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.  Very important tasks.

While garlic enhances many recipes with it's flavor we also know it is very beneficial for heart and cancer health for these reasons.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Well just maybe having garlic each day will keep the cardiologist and oncologist away. We can wish right! Wishes and thoughts do come true.

A few of the ways that I love to use garlic in recipes ( there are many)  are in my chunky guacamole/salsa, my green salads, raw crackers and in my salad smoothie.

What are some of your favorite recipes that you make using  garlic? Head on down to the comments section below and please let us know.  Would love to have you also share with us on  Facebook.com/refreshyourlifenow.

Wearing the Healthy Nutrtion Hat

My dad came home after "residing" in the hospital and rehab for the last 3 plus months swapping between the two three times.  Was he happy to hear he was finally going home!

I can't imagine the long lonely days and nights.  At times he was happy, he has a sense of humor when he remembers and a flirt.  I would visit and he wished I could've stayed longer sometimes.

I wore the meal planner hat to help him regain his strength and to encourage him to eat more again once he was back on solid food.  Makes me thankful to be able to eat and to eat what I want to eat even more.

Now home I was able to speak with the head of the dining room where he lives to plan healthy meals with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables (salads), dark green vegetables and sweet potatos. We are better able to keep him off of the white foods, bread, pasta and sugar now.  The director was very agreeable to it all.  He knew what quinoa is and says they do serve it at times, as some of the residents like it. Many however are not familiar with it and therefore won't eat it.  He'll make sure my dad has some and buckwheat and tabouleh too when they are on the menu.

The point of my dad's tale?   It was not always easy to provide healthy meals for my dad in these two institutions. Trays came up wrong or the doctor made changes I did not agree with (Ensure instead of real protein, Colace instead of prunes.) I won the battle for each. The Colace didn't work, boy did the prunes!  As someones healthcare advocate this is an area to really focus on because if you do not stand up for your loved ones nutritional needs while receiving institutional care, they only go so far, and at times as in my dads case, they give the standard food tray filled with all my dad is not supposed to eat due to his unique health issues.

On a wonderful note the hospital dining services had a survey which I filled out very honestly and in a long detailed manner. Suggestions flowed and I added them.  The second hospitalization the menu had changes WHOLE MULTI GRAIN bread was added, more salad choices and more drink choices. More heart healthy choices. My dad needed these.

It pays to speak up and to also fill out surveys and be heard.  They took mine to "heart" and I was pleasantly surprised.  Every baby step leads to change. The ripple has started at the hospital and the rehab facility.

It's amazing as life normalizes in someone elses' life how your own becomes more normal too.  While I did make some green juices and smoothies, I did not every day. My body was ready for good food.  So I whipped up a naturally sweet sundried tomato red pepper sauce.  Taking my vegetable peeler in hand I made large ribbons of zucchini fettucini noodles, cut up a whole creamy avocado and generously spooned on the sauce.  My taste buds rejoiced.

Simple and Quick Organic/Raw Red Sundried Tomato and Red Pepper Sauce

Ingredients:

1/4 C + 1TB warm water
6-8 sundried tomatoes (unsalted variety)
1/2 1 large red pepper
1/4 C pine nuts
1 large clove garlic (smaller's ok)
1/4 C olive oil (may drizzle in)
 2 large zucchini

Method:

Pour the water into the blender and add the sundried tomatos.
Let them soak in the warm water for 10  minutes

Create the zucchini fettucini noodles over a big bowl
Add a 1/4  tsp salt (or less) to the noodles
After the noodles sweat, drain out the water

Wash, cut and de-seed the red pepper
Peel the garlic
Peel and cut up a ripe avocado

Pulse and then blend the tomatos and water
Add some of the olive oil, blend by drizzling it in
Add the red pepper, blend
Add the garlic, blend
Add more olive oil, blend
Add pinenuts, blend
Add in more olive oil if desired
Optional a pinch of salt after you taste it

This sauce makes a delicious spread. I used it on a hummus and sprout sandwich and a sprouted tofu vegetable burger with spinach and sprouts on top. Both on Ezekiel Sesame Bread.

Let me know how the recipe turns out for you and other ways you use it in the comments below.

Hunger for Change Movie Premiere

Quite and eye opener.  Packed with information. A must see film for everyone to understand why the nation is sicker and obesity, diabetes and cancer is so prevalent these days.

Some peeks...

1. Most people are starving on a cellular level.
2. Sugar is a drug just like alcohol. Has an opiate affect you become habituated to it. You look
to comfort foods which release sugar, a virtual delivery system of sugar right into body fat.
It isn't the fat that's making you fat. It's the sugar and it's cheaper to produce.
3. If you drink diet soda, within a year you will have gained weight.
4. The marketers are telling you this, and you're getting this.
5. Walk down the grocery store aisle for kids breakfast foods, you may as well
roll up their sleeves and inject sugar.
6. Read all food labels, chemicals that clean out automotive parts are in food as are a host of
other unapproved chemicals hidden under other names and under spices and/or
     flavorings.
7.  When you are very ill and diagnosed with cancer you must look back on your life and
figure out with your own research which foods and lifestyle components caused this, then
     heal yourself.

Wonderment of Spring

After a fairly mild winter, the signs of Spring are everywhere. Yet, it's not quite Spring.  It's so delightful going outside without a jacket.

Spring brings to mind cleanses, lighter diets, longer daylight hours and what seems to be more time to do more.  While these are all good, I invite you to a different kind of Spring, a delicious Spring seen in a new light.

Hear the new sounds of Spring; the melodious sounds of the birds, full brooks and streams gurgling, peepers peeping, more laughter out doors, children playing outside.

Feel the lighter weight of your clothing and the soft warm breezes move across your face and body while soaking in more natural sunlight as the days grow longer.

See the beautiful colors of the crocuses, daffodils, buds and new leaves as they unfold.
Smell and taste the freshness of the Spring air.

Gently let your mind slow down and take this all in.
Be still and know that nature awakens.

Begin to refresh from the holds of winter; longer dark nights, heavier foods, holiday rushing about, and too much TV and computer time, perhaps.

Breathe.  Be with the flow of Spring.

Do You Do To Do Lists?

What's life without a little organization.  For some it's life. For others it's chaos.

The To Do List is a great organizational tool, or is it?   When we have alot on our plate, like good do be's you, I and a goodly part of the world will diligently write a to do list, whether it is a daily one or a weekly one.  Tell me, does this happen to you... you commit with good intentions to following this list and it may not even be that big of a list, yet you find that items on the list get moved to the following day or week quite often?  Planning is important, but is it if it cause you stress?  Lately with quite a full plate as a solo entrepreneur, a full time student, a caregiver and more, I'm personally moving quite a bit to the next day, more than I care to admit. There's only so many minutes in a day.  Overwhelm and giving up is not good.  Scaling down the number of to do's is good.

There is a saving grace.  On one side of the paper, or your Word doc, the heading is MY List.  Write two or three doable important tasks that you own, for example, schedule a monthly zumba, yoga, art, any class, write my weekly article today, teachers helper today, plan our weekly menus per meal.  On the other side of the paper write The UNIVERSE's List. Write as many tasks as you like, maybe items you've tried and can't seem to get them to work, time grabbers, for example. Another, my relationship with my... needs more kindness.  The key is after this next step you let these tasks go, no worries no stress; say ahhhh!  Read the Universe's List one last time then tear it into many pieces and throw them in the trash. This is similar to the burning bowl exercise on New Years Eve just before midnight.

My take is, anytime you can receive support, accept it.  The Universe supports and provides. All you need to do is ask.  The Universe loves when you ask.

Holy Cow! Love and Cacao

Cacao Pistachio Bark
Love is a strong emotion and quite the strong emotion for many of you with regards to Chocolate (Cacao).  While emotions play a key role for you, as with everything there is balance.

I need to be conscious around cacao myself as I really Love chocolate.  I find since I do not eat alot of sweets or unhealthy processed chocolate treats, mainly raw organic cacao chocolates, that once in a while I give my self permission to eat more of it.  Do you give your self permission?  Or, do you deprive yourself?

Last Thursday night I attended a pre-Valentine's Day event, a raw cacao chocolate party extraordinaire at Catch a Healthy Habit Cafe, in Fairfield, CT.  A sizable fun group, our host Glen, the chefs, some music and the cacao treats made for a deliciously happy evening.

Four amazing chocolatiers, Lisa, Tynne, Paul and Kenzi demonstrated delectable raw cacao treats; walnut fudge, herbal cacao balls, cacao elixirs, drinks, ice cream, cacao pistachio bark and much more.  I never thought I could eat so many raw cacao treats in such a short space of time.  The herbs and the use of a touch of cayenne in one recipe kept our mouths watering for more treats.  The trays with samples flowed for two hours.

Does this sound like something you can give yourself permission to do?  Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

The following day I was kind to my body with a mild detox process.  My nutritious foods were a 16 oz green juice, alot of water, a beet, orange, papaya smoothie and small light snack size meals of homemade mini raw veggie burgers and slightly steamed kale and broccoli with lemon.   To Love and Cacao, always!

What Does Love Have To Do With It

Everything, according to Chef Amy Rachelle who held a raw
food prep class in Bridgeport, CT, her only Connecticut
appearance during this trip back to the US.

Love yourself, the food you prepare, set loving kind connections as you work with the food, she loves to be creative, she loves to share her love, enthusiasm and knowledge with you, love the animals, and the earth we grow our food in and advocates that we do the same.  Keep it mineral rich, be, use organic in your foods, what you put in and on our bodies.

To succeed in a busy world where most food is nutrient deficient instead of nutrient dense how do you eat and be healthier?  This is Amy's mantra, "Plan and Prepare, Plan and Prepare".

When you plan and prepare you decide what recipes you want to make for the week.  Then you create a shopping list for the week.  Decide how many times you want to go food shopping.  Amy goes twice a week and as soon as she gets home the preparation for the week kicks in.  She allots 2 days a week for prep work.

All that can be washed, chopped, soaked is done in bulk for the week. This cuts back on the sense that this is labor intensive, get it off the list, it's a big time saver. Can we all use this? Definitely.

Part of the planning is also knowing what needs dehydrating and when. Dehydrating needs time, therefore, it is the first step in prep for recipes where it is required.

We all introduced ourselves and stated why we were taking the class and many needs were expressed.  As the class progressed the needs were addressed for example, I'm busy and don't have alot of time for recipes that take long time", "I get bored with the recipes I gravitate to and eat over and over", "I want to feel better" and the list went on.

One sauce miraculously turned into three different sauces with little effort. One sauce is for ratatouille, one for an awesome portabello with creamy sauce, and one for use in flax crackers.  The ratatouille was also used as a side for the portebello dish. Most recipes we saw were converted into more than one recipe.  Everything was absolutely delicious and not just to the raw foodists in the class.  "I can eat meals like this and be happy, this is tasty and satisfying" from a student who didn't think raw would be for them when it comes to satisfying meals for dinner.

Amy backs all of her love with food, with science. Throughout the day she always included the science backing her statements.  The importance of understanding food combining, fermentation (decay) of foods which cause the breeding ground for candida and bacteria and what happens when it gets into your tissues and blood.  She recommends blood tests and ph testing with ph test strips to understand if you are acidic or alkaline.  This is a whole topic unto itself and the backbone of her talk.  If you are too acidic you will invariably be sick, wake up tired even after a full nights sleep and invite major dis-ease into your life.

The other important mention was that our stomach is our second brain. It communicates to the brain, sends messages to us and to our body.  We need to listen to it carefully and what it is telling us.

One important piece of advice, we are all different and here and there we may chose to eat not so healthy.  It is important to be loving and kind to yourself which means not to deprive yourself.  If you really want something unhealthy or a totally unhealthy meal, make sure you really know what you are doing and why. Come to terms with it.  Her advice is to have a detox day the following day and include drinking alot of pure fresh water throughout the day.  Please contact me if you would like assistance with your detox needs more locally.

Amy covered kitchen setup how to's and for those who exclaimed, "my spouse isn't into this at all how do I set up the kitchen?" "Lovingly.  Express your needs kindly and be firm for your needs and set up half of the cabinets and half of the refrigerator for your foods and equipment".

We learned 12 recipes and variations in an eight hour class were there was a large amount of instruction, discussion and yes, we all ate nice size samples of each and every recipe. A delicious and empowering day.

A plaque on the wall said it all:  "There is only one Happiness in Life, To Love and Be Loved".
Remember to love yourself too.
